Debt service ratios by country, according to BIS

The Bank of International Settlement (BIS) just published their annual report over the weekend. There are many things in the annual report that we can talk about. But one of the wonderful think about the annual report is that as the data set for the charts and figures in the annual report is available, we started playing around with one of the data set, which is the debt service to income ratios of the private sector in selected economy (page 29, Graph III.6 in the report).

As we stuck all the data onto the same chart, this is what we found:

Leading the chart is Australia, while Norway, Ireland and China are almost tied in the next position. We also see debt service ratio coming down since the financial crisis in other countries, most notably here, Spain.
